"Reaching God’s World"
We need to see the vision that God has given to us from His Word in Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:15, and Acts 1:8. All of these scriptures tell us to go and make disciples of all nations, be witnesses to the uttermost parts of the world, and to preach the Gospel to the world. This is our emphasis in the month of October and, indeed, throughout each year.
Three years ago now we became who we are – the Cross Roads United Methodist Church. That first year 2006-2007, we knew it would take time to settle in, and establish our identity on this strategic corner in northeast Anderson. It didn’t take too long to get the word out that we had relocated, merged two former churches; and were open, established and ready for continued ministry to Anderson and the surrounding community.
Our next step was just as crucial. We knew God was leading us to be an outreaching church. This means that we are to be connecting with the city, getting involved in para-church ministries and striving to make a difference in the lives of people all around us. Now, three years following our big leap of faith, we continue to take steps of faith that will help us to be a church that continues to reach a lost and needy world. That reach is near and far, as close as the Christian Center and as far as Galveston, Texas.
The needs are many as well. There is obviously a need in today’s world for the transforming power of Jesus to save and change people’s lives. I had a conversation with a gentleman in my office just recently. His words struck a chord in me. He shared, “All I want to do is lead people to Christ.” Isn’t that what we all are here to do? Isn’t that the mission and priority of The Church? This month is evangelism month, but in no way are we to de-emphasize the ongoing mission of reaching the lost at any time of the year. Please pray for this ministry to grow and develop into our greatest attribute – a soul-winning church. Then pray with me for the lost, and how we can reach them now with the good news of Jesus Christ.
We have a great future because we serve a great God!
Love to All,
Pastor John
