This is the time of year when we step back and say, “My goodness, where did the time go?” We are winding down to the end of 2009. And at the same time we are heading to the season of joy and excitement, of shopping and buying, of cooking and cleaning, of crowds and chaos, of snow and ice. Of course, I am referring to the season of Christmas. We busy ourselves in preparing programs for Christmas. There are plays –“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.” There are cantatas – “The Christmas Story in Carols and Poetry.” There are dinners and parties and Christmas Eve services. All to be practiced and readied, and attended with one purpose in mind – to celebrate Christmas. I realized early on that Christmas is all about children. Whether it was trimming the tree, or driving around looking at decorated houses, or opening presents Christmas morning. Nothing gave me more joy than seeing the excitement on my children’s faces. I now understand my joy came from realizing that at Christmas my children were so happy words could not explain their feelings. I wish for you this Christmas season that we can be with our families. That we can take time to enjoy Christmas with the happiness of a child. After all, Christmas is the celebration of a child. “Christmas is a birthday time; the birthday of a baby.” I look forward to the joy of celebrating Christmas with my family at Cross Roads United Methodist Church. Love Always, Kenny Flesher, Co-Lay Leader
